I was wondering if anyone knows if a stump that someone has tried to burn twice will be any harder on my stump grinder teeth than a normal stump? Any suggestions would be appreciated.:)

I had a customer who had to have a fire on the stump before i got there. Needed to drink I guess. It just makes more of a mess for you.

Some green hardwoods will fire harden considerably. It won't affect your stump grinder's teeth but it may make the job take longer-you tend to cut smaller chips each pass.

The stump in question is a willow and is about 128" across. Do you know if willow is one that will harden when burned? At that size the job would take most of a day if it gets hard.:(

Yes, willow WILL fire harden but I have never ground one that had been fired. My guess is that it won't make a significant difference- The fired willow sticks I've messed with surface hardened a little but was still pretty soft below the surface.

I have a stump grinder that attaches to a skidloader they rate it at 60 H.P. and it has a 21" grinding wheel. I figure it would take 2 to 21/2 hrs to grind that stump and clean it up. You can see the stump grinders at www.ceattachments.com

Not sure how to give direct link to the stump grinder but they are under landscape tools and it is the SG60 model
