I'm bidding on a job where two trees sitting right where customer wants to build a 24X52' . I don't really want to have arborists come out at the bidding stage as it would be a waste of their time and money. What can I expect to pay to get these stumps out? I don't mind cutting down the trees (Juniper @18" dia base & pine/12" base), but need the stumps removed. There is easy access for equipment (double gate) to get in there.

Call CLEARVIEW TREE at 555-123-4567. He's always happy to give out price information over the phone... :hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

(Sorry, Clearview, I couldn't resist)

I guess I'll be the first one

2 cases of beer 25.00
Shovels 35.00
Pry bar 25.00

Blowing a whole weekend digging when you could have rented a backhoe for an extra 200.00 ------- priceless

With stumps that small. I usually tell people to leave a high stump for the excavator to get leverage with. You will need dig for the footings anyways, the excavator will pull them out in a flash.

Thanks John for the input-most of the excavating we do out here for residential are done with smaller backhoes/bobcats(no basements)-seems like a time consuming proposition. I just asked the question because I'd be wasting the time/money of arborists to bring them out here for a quote if I don't get the job. Said another way, I'm trying to be respectful of other folks' livelihoods based on the nature of the business I'm in-I don't always get the job. I did call 4 or 5 local arborists today but none returned my call as yet.

if they were my stumps id think id leave em 5-6 ft tall and chain them to a 4x4 pickup and uproot em. it will help if yousoak them in water untill drenched

then what do you do with them ???????

sounds like $ 150-200 job.... done gone, end of story !!!!!

no muss no fuss .....

 dig them out never grind them if you build on site tom trees

Why would you do that? If you bring the proper size grinder in and grind it so that it's gone and then back fill with base. We do that here all the time and have no problems at all. Of course if your only grinding 5-8 inches that will not work but if you dig them out you got a huge hole to deal with. Grind them so the stump is gone or to a dept of at least 18-20 inches and then back fill with proper base.

Quote them $500. (not a big % in the total project cost). You take $150, I'll take $150 and we'll get Juststumps to do it for $200.

Thanks guys for the input. Was out of town last 4-5 days working on another job so I couldn't reply. I know I don't like quoting things over the phone either but in this case... On a side note I sent my electrician out there at an agreed upon time for a meter spot-homeowner never showed. Would be nice if you could bill people when they waste your time like that like plumbers do, but that's another thread. Thanks again for the input.
