Well...I prolly shouldnt even be talking about my little "accident" today..but it could heed as a warning to others that have been using chainsaws all their lives....or it will give you something stupid to laugh at....

I was warming up the pipe on my 394 today and running my hand around the pipe as I have a hundred times...with the saw running and chain turning...but this time as I brought my hand around the pipe my middle finger apparently swung a little low...and "WHACK" at about 3500 rpms..a tooth or three off the chain hammers the finger tip...fortunately...it just leaked alot...didnt get the nail somehow...but tore up the end of the finger pretty good...

What I am getting at..is no matter how many times one does something....there is always room for error....

ps typing sucks this way...

394 pipe

Hello dennis,
Dont feel bad, We all do those kinds of things from time to time, we just get complacent sometimes and screw up. enclosed a photo of a 394 pipe you dont have to check the temperature on.

Hey Dennis ya lil creep, thats what you get for taking Uncle Art's chain when Im not looking and replacing it with that rocked out rusty harvester chain. How ya gonna compete against Rotax Bob when your all thumbs?

Glad you're OK. Just...use...it...as...an...excuse....to...not...have...to....type..so...many....periods....

i was ripping a big oak log on Saturday just so we could lift it on the truck. the sprocket cover was getting clogged with slivers, and i caught myself reaching in underneath to pull them away from the chain while the saw was idleing - stoopid!
'hope your finger heals up soon - soak it in beer.

just a battle scar Dennis. Thank goodness was'nt major eh? Don't have a saw scar yet. Amounghst my scars, is one caused by a carving knife. Was leaning on a country ham and the knife came out, went thru the skin on my forefinger and stuck in my knuckle. This one leaked too. I wrapped it up in a bath towel and went to town. One of the members here posts "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger." ... "whatever." Good luck with your saw racing.

Mike its funny you say that...one of the very few scars i have...(the other one was from fighting those 50 Americans) was from a carving knife that my aunt always said..."dont cut towards yourself"..well anyway...lol...its my very first saw scar..and i hope my last...like i said...????..it can happen...I really never thought it would to me...but a silly mistake...it takes only a fraction of a second...

stihltech..I think it must hurt less with a sharp chain..as I think the only thing I feel is the bruised ?? or cut bone...the aloe has helped the healing process and now it just looks like an inflamed scratch...but very square...lol... " l_l " kinda like that...cut on three sides..one side holding...

Doug, are you making fun of my over use of ..............?? ;)

anyway..gotta hit the hay...leaving in 4 hours for the US of eh..nope sorry...5 hours...up in 4...

whell the chain saw i was using had a borderline dull chain and it still hurt. i don't think the cutting of the flesh was that bad but when it got intot he bone was when i really felt it. i didn't feel a ???? think when i got in to the hospital and the pumped me full of pain killers in my iv bag. my mom and girlfriend were freaking out all i was concerened with was when can i run my saws again.:)

Dennis I hope your trigger finger heals up O.K. Cuttin the tip of your finger has got to be the worst spot on your hand. Hey Gypo that chain in the back of the truck still has plenty of tooth on it! Should still be good for racing unless the rivets are rusted out:D

Hey Marty, I always knew you must have gotten on the wrong end of a saw at one time. You came close to buckin your leg off!
I almost bucked my left hand off at the wrist, but was lucky enough to get sewn up by a neuro surgeon that specialized in chainsaw injuries in Nanaimo B.C., and no, it wasnt Walkers saw shop.
Anyway, I have regained full use 21 years after the injury and the stiffness in the wrist makes me a better filer! lol
The saw that got me was a razor sharp Husky 266.
Safety First!

john,
the sad part is i was already an instructor at the time of the accident. as i was hanging my chaps on the back of the truck i noticed a hazard. a spring pole. i did not want to let anyone get hurt so i picked up my 046 to cut it(chaps still on truck). strange thing about a cut that deep. you can almost immediately taste the bar and chain oil. marty
