I have a brand new, never been used 460 Rancher. It leaks bar oil, not much, but non the less it leaks, is this normal?? it leaves a bit in the bottom of the saw case.

I would saw the bar?? this was purchased 2 months ago, and I did nit use it yet. I can bring it back, but i did not want to look like too much of an idiot....

should I take a trip back?

One of guys that work with me has a 455 that leaks a little. I just tell him it's marking its territory. I think his leaks at the bar.

I've found that the huskys and jonsereds (same saws really) leak out of the top bolt that holds the dog in place and the bolt below the muffler that goes into the oil reservoir. both bolts daylight into the oil reservoir. not sure if it's the same on your saw, but I found that taking them out, cleaning them and putting a little RTV on the threads before reinstallation cures the problem.
on a jonsered I have i went as far as to kreem the entire inside of the oil reservoir. that sucker hasn't leaked yet.

I have a 455 and a 357xp that both do the same thing. If it really bothers you, do like I do.
When storing the saws, put a oil absorbent mat available at any autoparts store under the saws. They come by the pack of 20 for about 4 bucks and will last a long time.
Dont sweat it.

Leak

I recently purchased a 200t. It was leaking also. I took it back to dealer. He took apart, put it back together and assured me it didn't leak. I brought it home, sat it on the bench with paper towel under it. 24 hours later the paper towel is saturated. I'm no mechanic, but I played with it for an hour or so until I realized it was missing one of those plastic pieces that guide the chain into the cluth. I swear it wasn't there. I replaced it with one from another Stihl and it stopped the leaking. I don't know why, it don't make sense to me, but it stopped.

Yeah, they get to be a pain with the oil dripping all the time. In the steel boxes on the truck I lined the bottoms with cut up milk crates, the saws sit on top, the oil drips down and protects the boxes from rust.
Milk crates make good tool box liners, I used a table saw to cut the five panels out of one.

Line those saw boxes with carpet. Gentler on saws if put in a little rough, or bumpy roads etc. Carpet gets replaced every now and then when I see a big roll/pile out by the curb waiting on garbage truck.

There is a reason that rug is on the curb, a good reason. Carpet+ oil+ gas+ non-vented compartment+ hot saw= F-ing FIRE. Not to mention the piss stains and fleas.

Now back to the stupid question thing. Some people say there is no such thing but when the lady behind me at the bakery looked at the big # 3 cake I was buying for my kid and asked " How old is she?" ...
This isn't like that these are real questions and its true there are not really any stupid ones ( I guess) just stupid time to be asking them. HuH?
This little exerpt has nothing to do with the question at hand... I am just weird.

It helps to burp both the oil,and gas caps before storage as in most saws they are pressurized after they have run, release the pressure and they are less likely to leak.

ya saws will tend to leak a little bit. the whole inside of the cabinet on my hi-ranger gets soaked with oil and some gas. best thing i can tell you is drain the gas and the oil out of it when your storing it.

first

First thing I would look at is right on the side were is says husqvarna, thats probably the problem. Take it back to the dealer and ask him for a Stihl.

its a husky, just use it for a month and you wont be able to get it to even use oil.

1. Put a saw hot enough to start a fire into saw box?
2. P stains from huskys alread in box when I put stihl in with them?
3. Fleas really are only interested in 4 legged huskies, not orange ones.

WAIT A SECOND. Did I just get flamed?
