I kept waiting for the punch line, "An infected tree can appear healthy for months"

even when dead, then abruptly turn brown.

so is this real, we are having a similar problem with bay trees on the coast of north Florida, they are dropping like flies and this is significant because they compose a large portion of the canopy along the beach.

The article does not do justice the damage this disease has caused. I have heard it called the plant apocalypse. I work one job near Big Sur where I drive past miles of dead tan-oaks. Nearly the entire forest there is dead or dying. There are countless tan-oak trees that will either be burned or chipped or allowed to rot because the wood is quarantined. I have a large job starting the first of December that is just burning tan-oaks in piles.
