WOW! I was feeling pretty confident in my winter work schedule, had 2 very large development deals set up. First one would have taken about 3-4weeks, and was going to generate enough revenue to shut down for a week or too, do some training, paint some trucks....stuff like that. Then yesterday, I received news that the other big one might not go now at all. This is BIG BAD NEWS for me, as that was at least 6 solid weeks of butter work. Have a good amount of Oaks to prune, but not till after Christmas, and a couple removals to do now, but other than that, not much set up. Have another city who wants me on their winter contract every year, this year I passed again, as I thought I wouldn't be able to handle all that work. That contract is worth around 140,000, and I PASSED thinking I couldn't handle all that work! Hindsight really is 20/20
:bang:

Maybe send the city a letter explaining that your work load will be completed sooner & that if the contract has not been awarded, you would like to be considered!

I take on as much work as can be had....even if I know I cant handle it, whenit comes time to do it, I put on a temp crew!! I have thought about additional crews but in these times it would be wrong to bring guys out for short spurts here n there......they know up front this is temporary & I oversee it, it goes well & the Twp/City uses me over n over!!

Good Luck,

LXT...........................

That's the one thing that bugs me most about this work, its either feast or famine.
Between the economy, wind storms, hacks and cheapskates, ice storms, drought and tree disease, equipment failure and thick headed home owners:dizzy:
I am more of a one to two man show, I'd like to hire an employee or two but i don't think i could ever give them steady employment. Here buddy lets go like hell for two months then lets stop and trimm shubs in july, then lets not work for three weeks, oh wait a wind storm just hit down the road; could you come back and work like hell for the next month! And by the way we don't work in the winter.

I guess it's better than being a politician :)

What part of Iowa are you in, I'm going bowhunting on the skunk river in washington county next week. This year i'm bringing the trailer and loader with to get some logs for the sawmill, we don't have any cherry, hickory, osage or red oak up here on the prarie.
