A few years ago I bought a used SuperSplit J , it was made in Quebec in the 80's under license .
It had spent it's life in Cape Breton as a rental , 4hp brigs on it .
I had a friend of mine who's son wanted to find a few extra dollars so we bought a couple of loads of logs , I block up , he splits , loads , deliver , I supply some of my equipment .
He's a great kid , listens and pays attention and a hard worker .
They never saw a Supersplit , I show them the unit , after 20 cord he's a believer lol
He had upgraded the 4hp to a 5 Honda and all was well till the bearing that pushes the rack down gave out , before I could get a bearing match my friend sent SuperSplit an email at 7:30 pm Atlantic time , got a reply at 7:45 pm Atlantic , he ended up calling them , amazed at the friendly service on the phone , parts in stock to fit an almost 40 year old machine so he bought an updated "Spa" package .
So apart she came .
It's a good thing he did .
The pinion was quite worn but the rack is perfect
The new shaft is 1/2" longer so we shimmed out the flywheels 1/4" instead of trying to press the flywheels further in .
Which also meant ,
We'll run a strip of flatbar to widen out the cover , should be back in the woodpile tomorrow
