I have a Super XL12 thats been setting in my shop for a while so I thought I would see if I could get it running. I don't really need it I just want it to run if I want to. Ya know?
I have an 038, 044 , 55r and a xl12. Just to cut firewood for myself.
Anyway I put a new fuel line, filter and carb kit on it and it eventually started but didn't run right. Now when I try to start it gas pours out of the carburertor throat. Have I got a diaphram in upside down or something?
It has a Tillotson carburetor with the pyramid looking reeds. Is there a website that shows those carburetors and how they reassemble?
I just put a kit in the blue Xl12 and it runs. I have took the SuperXL12 apart at least ten times and no luck.
Any advice???
Thanks
Dan

I forget which carb it is on that saw, but I have a record here of fetching some Tillotson stuff from http://www.id-communications.com/tillotson/ in the past, and it appears as though it's still available there.

The diaphram is attached to the metering needle.
Could the reeds be causing it to flood?
Are they supposed to be completely flat against the plastic? I can see daylight under them.
Thanks

Don't know much about reed assemblies. I know crankcase vacuum pulls them tight, so a little gap is probably OK. Clean it to make sure there's no carbon anywhere. Make sure you don't have any intake air leaks--hoses, boots, gaskets, whatever the Homie has.

BTW, whether the inlet lever hooks to the diaphragm or not, the lever height still has to be set. Typically, flush with the diaphragm chamber floor.

If the metering assy isn't it, check the internal check valve. Little rubber thing in a brass cylinder. I've had a couple old ones go bad.
