Hi Chaps,
As mentioned, went to test the cyld bolts on my newly aquired 036 and the scrench wont fit down the cyld holes to the base to test.
I just assumed that they did, but this stihl one wont.

Rekon an extended one in 3/8 drive so I can use the torqe wrench would be the go.

Im located in Au, and wondered what others use, so I can then order one, rather than trying to order one from somewhere overseas only to find it dosent fit like the current scrench.

Thanks chaps.

Oh, got the 036 for $90 along with some other assorted fencing gear.
Had cracked/ torn air filter cover, 2 missing fins from the top of the jug, and the flat part of the rear handle broken away.
Piston is good along with the cyld too.

Poor thing has had a hard life, the chains rakers were still original but the tooth was filed back past 80%, and there was a groove in the bar like a train had burned its wheels into the track with wheel slip on the bottom side of the bar where they had been levering away creating fine powder instead of cutting.
Av rubbers are quite loose due to that abuse, and I checked the impulse and input boot due to that too, and they are ok.

Cheers

I was just putting them up for a pic, I am sure you can get one closer.

Ah, sorry.
Have tried looking for those earlier but I was unsure if the shaft was too thick, only came up with US sellers on ebay when I searched too.
Tried to load pictures of saw.
Having serious trouble with our phone line at the moment, was out for over a week last month, and its still very bad with regular drop outs.
grrrr
Ok, pics should be with this now if it all works.

I have a couple of the t27 tools and my favorite go to, really the only one I ever use is a 6'' (i think) 3/8 drive socket. I got it from napa and I think I paid something around $11 for it. Well worth it, and again, really the only one I ever use anymore. Put an adapter and use in an impact driver, spin it by hand, or use a 3/8 ratchet. Love the thing, I initially though it's long length would be a setback, but that has never been the case. I actually like it longer for most things, certainly won't be using the scrench anytime soon, that's for sure.

I should also add, if your looking for cheap parts to get it fixed up, like the handlebar and such, you should consider getting parts from Huztl/Farmertec. I built an entire ms361 from one of their parts kits and am very happy with the quality. Very good prices, and you shouldn't have any problems with getting them to where you live. Shipped to the US was pretty quick, within a week or two, I believe.

Hi Chaps,
Great suggestions, but the US $25 shipping, or near 33 au per item makes it a bit too much.
Will try the stihl dealer and see how it goes, will keep you posted.
Still after an option with 3/8 or 1/4 drive for torque wrench.

Thanks Chaps

How much does a 5/16 drill bit cost over there?

If he'll sell you one....

I can see no reason why the dealer would not. Limiter removal tool yes.. this? Naaa

I have both of those as well as the t-handle combined they were less then 20.00 Build a good relationship with your dealer and it can be quite beneficial.

Hi Chaps, thanks for the replies.
Armed with this information, I spoke to the local Stihl shop, and they have ordered one of the 1/4" socket long t27 for $30 ish out of their cattledog. (I didnt realise they had those available )
Was hesitant to get one from china ebay for fear of it either not fitting, ie too fat in the shaft, or just not long enough, or the tip just breaking off due to plastic type steel they use on some things.
Those on ebay that did appear ok had shipping costs from the usa or uk at over 30 bucks plus the cost of the item, same problem with anything on amazon too.

Thanks again, will post up how it goes once the gear arrives.

Ps, how does the piston and rings look, were the previous users using cheaper oil, appreciate your opinions ?

Thanks again for your help, its much appreciated.

Piston looks fine to my novice eye. Perhaps some slight carbon buildup, but it doesn't look bad. I would clean up the exhaust and perhaps the cylinder top if you take it apart, otherwise I would be leave it alone. Just my thoughts, be interesting to see what others say.
