My company is a member. I don't always get a chance to read the magazine...but I'd still be a member. They provide useful updates and they are very helpful if you have regulatory questions.

For example, I had a contract to prune trees on the grounds a large company who is very on top of their safety protocol. Their expectation was that we comply with OSHA regs (obviously), and they outlined standards for working from height. Everything they had insisted on full body harnesses (not a big problem) and being tied into certified tie in points, etc... Obviously these were provisions that won't work for climbing a tree. I called the OSHA guy at TCIA he ran me through the regs...(what that one amounted to was they were refering construction regulations which have no relevance to tree care). I could go back with confidence that we were in great shape. I did a lot of digging to figure that one out and was lost after trying to read all of the junk I could find online. I figured "what the heck, I pay TCIA dues, so I'm going to call. That took 10 minutes...I should have started with them!!

Bottom line: I think TCIA is well worth it.

I am going to join in a couple of weeks when work starts coming in. Does anyone use any of the benefits that come with a membership?

I just joined last Nov. I've read their magazine for years. I'm glad I joined, I've been impressed so far.

I get the magazine, Im not a member.........there are just too many organizations creating Certs & such that it can get very expensive!

Personally I think accreditation is a little ridiculous, I dont need a 3rd party to tell me how to run my biz, as if my cpa doesnt already have that market cornered! this to me is just a lobbying effort to restrict contracts from being bid on by other than the priviledged!!

Dont Cert. Arborists already belong to an accredited body?.....ISA? & I think the CTSP is kinda laughable.....! If your company is large enough? then hire a safety man who has been certified by your state in regards to safety procedures within your field code!! other than that..........a wasted certification IMO.

I liked them better when they were the NAA & certs werent watered down for money/membership sake................when being a Certified Arborist meant something, i remember when there were 48 CA`s east of the mississippi & you had to go state side to take the test.........now there are over 24,000 CA`s..... do the math!!!

LXT.............

I am a member, as well as CTSP. Also my company is a member. The magazine is top notch for the price. (free) I really like the accident briefs and often review some of them in Safety Meetings. The articles are normally well written and informational.

I am member.. they have lots of good info, and while many think they are only for the larger tree companies.. realistically what they have can benefit virtually any size company.. certain ally once you get large enough to hire somebody they have a lot of benefits.. why learn from you mistakes when you can learn from an organization which had figured out best way to do things. Believe me I learned from enough mistakes over the years.. and would be a lot richer today if I had somebody to show me a few things years ago.

I am a member since 11-2010. Just recently started using the tools for my company. I am thinking about accreditation mainly for the training aspect, as I work much harder than I did 12 years ago when I started this company, hoping that through training we will be able to establish a more accountable workforce with a clearcut responsibilty to job duties and perhaps use some sort of a pay scale with the training to offer advancement through our company.

I was wondering who are members or just get the magazine?

I have been a member since 2001 and a CTSP since 2008. IMO the best tree mag out there. I give customers subscription cards in the store...hopefully making smarter / safer tree guys. Many don't realize how big an industry we are in. Cost is pretty high, but it's worth it. Good training materials and great Expo.

I get the magazine, look forward to reading it each month. I'm not a member though. Comes with my ISA membership.
