Is it a good saw for a homeowner that wants to cut a few cords a year and have a reliable saw with decent power? It comes in at about the same price as the Husky 346, but is it less of a saw.

What he is looking for:
Saw that has decent power
Will start and run well year after year

Don't have a 310 but the closest thing to it,a290.I think their a decent saw.IMO these saws have weak oilers and I run a 16" bar on my 290.Did run a 20" which did fair in green wood but in dead wood thats had a little time to dry the oiler just could not put enough juice on the bar to cut the mustard.

It's not just my 290.Do a search you'll find others with oiler problems on Stihl's mid range saws.

Husky 365 may well be a better alternative, especially for longer bar applications.

In my experience with 346 Xp's ( I've used 2 then finally gave up on them), They really compare in power with the MS 250 except in my experience the 346 XP doesnt' oil as well. The 310 is alot more powerfull and heavier saw. I wouldn't run anything over a 16" bar on a 346 XP, but would not have any trouble running a 18"-20" bar on a 310.
