That should be the MS361. :) :blob2:
It has much better anti-wibe and air filtrasion than any other Stihl, except the 341 who isn't availiable in the USA (same saw as 361, but with different porting and a bit less power). It is a lot more powerful than the 260, but also weights about 2 lbs more. These saws weights less than comparable Huskys (357xp/359) though, regardless of what Husky states.

How true and this from someone in elux territory.

All kidding aside Sawtroll are you getting to use your new MS361 much and what have you discovered so far about that saw?

Lobo, the 353 has taken care of most cutting so far this year, as it has been mostly thinning and removal of small stuff.

The 361 has only seen a few hours of bucking duty (logs from last fall) so far. There still is a lot of "rotten" snow in the woods, but I hope to fell a bunch of over-mature 14-16" birch on saturday. That is MS361 "territory", even though the 353 could have handled it with ease. I'll be back on here monday - have a happy week-end!

Canada

4pwr, I just realised that you probably don't live too far away from the Canadian border.
If you can buy your saw in Canada, you will get a slightly more powerful 361, than those sold in the USA. The 341 should also be availiable in Canada.

OK, before you deside to buy in Canada, you will of course have to investigate into price differences and legality/cost of bringing it across the border. I don't know anything about these matters.

Also remember that dealer support is important.

Good luck, whatever you deside! :) :blob2: :blob2:

I wonder how the americans buying saws from Canadian saw builders get them across or how Canadian builders ship them across.

4pwr,

Now that you have decided on the brand of saw that you want to buy, I have to wonder if you used the old homelites that you remembered as being good saws. If so, you will have to get used to letting the saw do the work, and not bearing down trying to make it cut faster. It doesn't work that way. Newer saws may cut faster, but only if left in the higher rpm range.

Good luck with your purchase and be mindful of safety considerations.

An American who buys a Stihl in Canada does not get a Stihl USA warranty, he will have to return to Canada for warranty service, Stihl has drawn a very hard and distinct line on this issue. This same American, if he went to Canada solely for the purpose of buying the saw and did not reside in Canada for any period of time, will be responsible for duty and possibly even brokerage fees which can be substantial.

Just checked the link out. Just because it has battleship design, doesn't mean it's the best. Seems to be heavily favored towards JD.

John Deere sells several models made by Efco (EMAK of Italy). The Cub Cadet Commercial saws as sold by Tractor Supply are also made by EMAK. Those models sold by both John Deere and Tractor Supply are priced significantly lower at Tractor Supply. Yellow paint must be cheaper than green paint.

just checked that web sight out. SPIN ... nothing like compairing apples to oranges. I am thinking the person that designed this websight is and old campaign manager for some politician.
I think you hit the mark right on. They have been very selective as to which models to compare, and what features are on the "check list". :angry2:

I dont think the EMAK saws are bad saws though, but I have read that they are somewhat lacking in anti vibration and air filtration (and finish too, if you care about that). They are at least sold as Efco, John Deere and Oleo-Mac. Use the search function on this forum if you want more info on them. There are members here that use them and like them.
