I decided to let my son come out and play with me and the boys today. He has helped out from time to time mostly on little jobs and has done ok. He helps with dragging brush, moving wood, and of course...raking. He had been bugging me to let him work while he is on spring break. He lives with his mom so the opportunity isn't always there. We did a rather large oak removal w/crane. Everything went well with the tree and my son did a good job! So anyway, at about 10am I figured we could take alittle break so I rode the ball down. Now my ropes kinda strewn about. After break I am tied back in to ball and realize I don't have my 200T. It was laying next to gas and oil having been topped off. So I said to him "grab my saw for me"...and , now picture this..he twinkle toes his way to my saw with out ever stepping on it (rope) and does the same back and hands me my saw. I say "why were you so careful to not step on the rope?" and he looked right at me and said "if I was climbing I wouldn't want people walking on my rope, just seemed like common sense" . I almost burst with pride!! I then took the time to explain to him about dirt and rope not being friends. Today was a good day.

thats awesome!!, my boys have grown up around it, my 2 younger want to work this summer full time, should be fun!
My oldest 19, almost 20, soon to be preacher, has no love for da wood!

And he looks so happy to be there...LOL, or is he just worn out. They learn by example, he oughta turn out just fine, congrats.

He is far to cool to smile. Typical of his age. He was smiling plenty until a camera is on him. Esp when the end of the job is well within sight!

Makes you feel good, doesn't it? Knowing that your helping to raise a man that actually knows what hard work is and how to do it right. Too many spoiled kids have the world handed to them by their parents and when they move out they just expect someone else to take over the job of taking care of them.

My oldest is only 11, but at the end of the summer he decided he wanted to make some money so I said he could drag brush for me. Well, I started cutting and Michael started dragging, no complaints and pretty quick considering his size. Poor guy worked so hard trying to keep up (and I didn't have to say a word to him) that he ended up puking a few hours into it. I had to make him stop, he wanted to just keep going (granted, if it was a groundie,I would have said quit drinking so much the night before and get back to work). When I asked him why he was in such a big hurry to get back to draggin after throwing up, he looks at me and says "well, your not going to pay me for something I don't do, and I really want that game." Talk about proud! I told him about pacing himself so he could last an entire job, and he got right back to it.:D

That's pretty cool. Good for you man!

My two nephews were up from FL a couple years ago, and I got to take them flying in the bucket (all tied in up to Ansi specs, of course). Was nice to play the role of uncle MDS a little. Too bad my brother is a scumbag loser.. I'd like to see them a little more often.

I'm hoping the younger one can replace my old ass someday maybe. I have a good feeling about that one. Already had two great climbers in our family, with me and my brother, so I guess anything is possible! lol.
