I was wondering what most Arbornist used as a saw...I've seen Husky, sthil,Husquvarna,Shindawa, and Sacs-Delmar....From what I understand Sacs and Shindawa are mostly used by loggers. Anoher question....a man was talking to me today and said that the logging business was fading away. And that the tree businesses days were short....What do ya'll think?? Personaly I think he was wrong and didn't know what he was talking about....I think if you got the gut'and the drive go for it....:blob2: :blob2:

First of all, the logging industry has very little to do with the tree care industry, except they both deal with trees.
Obviously the Stihl 020T is industry standard for climbing, but at $450-$500 a little out of range for budget minded climbers. Husky makes a nice little climbing saw but it's record for reliability is spotty. I use a 'throw-away' saw, the Echo 3400. Great for a couple years, toss it when it wears out. Pays for itself in 2 days, so buying a new one is no big deal.
You might want to browse through the chainsaw forum, go back a couple months before all the saw racers got onboard. You will find quite a few threads on climbing saws.

We use Sthil(except the Echo 3450 topping saw) 'cus there are more than 15 dealers within a about a 30 drive, and they are good saws.
I don't know of one Sach's or Shindawa dealer. We tried Husky but found we couldn't get reliable help getting parts from the one dealer in our area, so we gave up on them.
I guess I would look in the phone book and see what you can get parts and service for in your area.

Yeah Mike, one of the best small engine techs in in your area.

I know people who like DS, but they are few. Shindaiwa is an occational use saw, not for every day production. I have had dealers tell me they are problematic.

Stihl and Husky are the best in the market, research the dealers and go with the best service department.

another good thing about owning an echo is that if you need parts for it over the weekend (when all of the shops in town are closed) you can go over to home depot. they stock a bunch of parts!!!! keep your motor runnin'.........

Throwaway saw

If a throwaway saw "pays for itself in 2 days", what's wrong with spending 4 days worth on a decent saw like the Stihl MS200? It's lighter, too.

Here's the Stihl factory website streaming Realplayer video where they show how to start a chainsaw held between the legs. Ouch!
Safe chainsaw starting

I use Husky's & 90% of the time a 335XPT, their arborist chainsaw. Plenty of power & bar for most pruning work & small trees or brushy stuff, but does'nt weigh a ton. I believe most folks buy too much saw for average work & that its a false economy to drag that puppy around until you find a big enough tree to need it...there's always a tree bigger than your saw:D
They have pics up in my equipment store of a guy's specially ordered 5 foot bar, bought for just one job.

I looked into the Echo But backed away i'll Keep a Stihl MS200t Love that Saw.
Power to weight is awesome!:blob2:

Just got my Walkerized 335, and OH MYYYYYYYYY. Wowowow

Same bar and chain, old 335, a lousy starting and idling saw, but a strong runner, did a 30 second cut. The new one---guess what ---was 19 seconds. Simply amazing for $120 US!!! I would say a stock 020T would make the cut in 26-32 seconds. Another of my 335's has lost its edge as it compression dropped, but it outcut at least four 020T's in its heyday.

Now I can't wait for the new 336 to hit the market, supposedly in a few months. I'm sure Husky will solve the carburation problems that plagues the saws after 6-12 months of hard use.

Bidding on a Solo 651 on Ebay, hoping to get it for under $300, it lists at $599, and is the class of the 10-11 lb saws. It will go straight to Dennis Greffard for a hop to 5.5 hp or so, hopefully. Same as a stock 372XP. Then , I'm getting my 372 muffler done, that should put her at well over 7 hp. Right now, it is madsenized, and cuts about 12% faster than stock. Dennis is massaging my 3120, hopefully to over 12 hp!!!

I feel the need for speed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
