I've not yet messed with a MS270 or MS280 so I can't comment on them but the MS260 NON pro is a great saw and very dependable, a time tested and proven saw!!!

0260Pro vrs. 026

BWalker;
Why not the 026Pro?
I have been using the 026 pro and after using the regular 026 for a couple of years I wont go back.
The reason is the 026 pro has metal dogs, (the 026 did not), a compression release (which has not leaked yet) and the 026pro seems to have more power.
I really like the saw. It is light, powerfull, great for bucking and chunking small stuff.
All around good saw.

I like the standard 026 better because of the oiler. Initially I thought the adjustable oiler would be great but now I find it anemic. I like the chain to be a little wet.

A new dealer opened up in the area and he's carrying Stihl, so I got a close look at both the 270 and 280. I have to say that I'm not that impressed. Compared to the 026/260, they appear bulky, especially around the side cases. The weight distribution was OK, but still felt heavy. If they use this design to phase out the 029/031, there might be a future for them, but I can't see anyone with an honest need for a 260 choosing one of these instead.

He also has Deere, and I was pleasantly surprised. I know some guys here have talked them up, but this was my first close up look. They seem pretty well built, light, decent controls, and well balanced. Nice small to medium saws.

Why would you want dogs on an 026 anyways? The second thing I would do (after ripping off the fixed carb and tossing it) is rip off the dogs and see if I could hit the carb with them.

I would cast my lot with the NON PRO 026.Let the boys with the Stihl adjustable oilers enjoy them.

I might note Stihl has REDUCED oiler tank volume(9.5 oz) on the new 270 compared to the 026(.68 pt).Bar oil,who needs it?Maybe Stihl is going to wean their saws off bar oil :dizzy:

No oiler mess or oil on your boots.

Funny, I have the same problem with the Farm Boss... oiler's cranked all the way up. By the end of a tank of gas, I still have half a tank of bar oil. Stihl says there's nothing wrong. Ho-hum...

my 036pro has adjustable carb. i wouldnt change a thing about this saw.
when im tired an want to get a lot done in short order . out the 036 comes.
except mabe a booster for the oiler.
thats its limitation ,not power.
