The Pope´s Christmas tree cut down in Austria with a Husqvarna chainsaw
As an honor for the 500 year jubilee of the church of Eferding (upper Austria) prince Georg Starhemberg was invited to donate the big Christmas tree for the Peters square in the Vatican (Rom).
The 30 m high and 60 years old spruce was cut by forest master Franz Fenzl with a Husqvarna chainsaw beginning of December. It couldn’t just be cut down it was lifted with a big crane so the magnificent branches had to be conserved.
The tree was then loaded with a huge crane onto a truck an was transported together with 30 smaller (3 m) spruces for the apartments of the cardinals to its destination in Rome.
The official setting up of the big tree will be on the 17 of December 2005 in Rome/Italy where an Austrian delegation with the head of the provincial government Josef Pühringer and diocesan bishop Ludwig Schwarz will hand over the tree officially to pope Benedict 16th.
