I have an old Hobart meat bandsaw and wanted to take the wheels (16.5" diam. x 1.25"w) and use them in a bandsaw mill that I want to build. I know with all the creative minds on this site someone has done this before and I'd like some guidance. I wanna use it to resaw large slabs and small logs. Thanks in advance.

Here's the one my brother built from a meat saw...

About the only thing he bought was the blade guides...

Thanks Sawyer Rob, did your brother work off a set of plans or did he make his own? Would like to see some more pics and specs if you can get ahold of some please. Thanks!

Nice looking saw... so he uses it to mill up bales of hay? Seriously, what does he use for blades? Engine?

He didn't build it from plans, he looked over my Lumbermate, and built it out of his head. I'm the same way, i never build from plans either.

Anyway, the origional motor was an old 10hp OHC Honda that was on a power cement trowl he found laying along the road. Someone must have lost it off a truck? Now it has a 13hp cheapo Honda copy on it, that you can buy from Harbor Frieght.

He's been using cheapo lennox bands, made to the length he needs, he sharpens them on his home made sharpener once or twice and then throws them away.

It's a mobile home I beam track and the rest is just from his and everyone elses junk pile... lol (except the guides)

Here's where he keeps all his chainsaw/sawmill "stuff", he sawed out all the lumber for it from tree's off his property,

BTW, that old OHC Honda is now on his garden tractor... lol

Looks pretty stout. Nice that he can pull boards & slabs off the ends, if he needs to. I'm guessing he doesn't plan to move it too often! I wouldn't want to be around a log rolls off between the mill and the shed. Looks like a lot of welding. How many board feet do you reckon he's cut?

He has some more mobile home frame, and is going to make up another set of tracks to put in his nearby woods. Then he can pick up the head, take it to the woods and set in on the new tracks to mill there.

Did you notice the electric over head hoist? I think if a log rolled off the back of the mill, he could get it back out with that.

I don't know how many bd ft he's sawn, but i can tell you it's quite a bit. I can also tell you that the small bandwheels are hard on bands and that's why he buys cheep ones and pitches them after 1 or 2 sharpenings...

I also don't know what he used for tires, if anything?? I'll ask him in a few days when i plan to go see him...
