Anyone up on the latest for theft protection devices for trucks, chippers, stump grinders etc?
I know low jack has been around for years, but i would think there must be a better system out by now, running on GPS... Hopefully cheaper too!
Thanks,

I assume you saw the other thread. There are lots of those systems out there. Just a matter of capital investment with such an upfront cost. If you can justify the expense...go ahead.

A well-lit yard with a CCTV system works well- with signage that states as such.

Of course, a 10mm Smithy helps, too. ;)

a hungry german shepard. i saw a guy in sc who had all his stuff in a lot with the meanest greman shepard straight from h*ll. no one would mess with that.

I would add motion lights and a guard dog. Not neccessarily a mean one, but one that has a disturbing loud bark and strong presence, sort of the alert or watching breeds.
I know of a neighbor who has a Newfoudland. Very intimidating presence, but once you get to know him and he allows you to touch him, he's a great dog. His bark sounds like that of a hell hound's though.
quote..."The Bullmastiff was bred to be a gamekeeper's guard dog who could track quietly, cover short distances quickly, and pin and hold poachers."
If that doesn't do it for you, I don't know what would.
Try some searching under working dogs. Dogs make the greatest buddies too.:)

get to know the local crims is the best ..protection..make it known you know exactly who /what they are..i also have a well lit yard locks on everything padlocked steel gates etc etc and 12 bore shoty last of all i have a real mean wife:D touch wood i have never had a yard break in

My Newfie is a retard who is scared of the dark. That bark is loud though and people who don't know him, find him a little scary. Worst case he could slobber the bad guy to death.:D

I would think that a tall electric fence, topped with razor wire would keep some criminals at bay.

The Save-A-Tree headquarters got broken into a number of years ago. Their yard was surrounded by fences, wire, and gates. On the back side was train tracks. I am not sure if all of those things were there when the break in occured. The way I hear it, almost all the saws were stolen, and supposedly it was an inside job.

I Am concerned about taking the 40K stump grinder to Fl. So, idealy there would be a mechanism similar to low jack that would give a directional signal or GP coorinates...

Just curious, Daniel:

While you chase stumps in Florida, who's taking care of your customers back home?

We've had break-ins. Last one was in March - lost a brand new Stihl 660, Stihl cut-off saw (for stone/concrete), and a Sears air compressor. Plus, all our Master Locks were cut off with a bolt cutter. Since then, we've put on heftier locks, I drive to the shop each night, we bought a camera.....and we keep a close eye on our neighbor.

Other things you may want to consider:
Locking covers or caps for any and all fluid areas. Nothing worse than a bunch of sugar or sand in a tank. Brat kids.
Install a ground key separate from the ignition area and hidden from plain sight. This works especially well on machines that must be started to move away or transport.
Last but not least, a large steel bar of several inches makes a good visual deterrent. Especially when through both wheels of the machine.
Stopping the thieves may not be possible, but slowing them down dramatically improves the chances of catching them or deterring them.

Why dont you just fit a tracker to it,that way you will find out where it is ,if it ever gets lifted.

pro thieves have got a tracker detector..they can find and destroy a tracker chip no prob ...

Hook a electric fence charger up to trailer, etc. and have a motion dection camera as the hunters use at deer stands. The fence charger is great. shocks the crap out of them when they touch the equipment. One thing be careful. it pisses them off and they might do some vandalism. I used to have my horse trailer broken into and lots of tack stolen. Installed a fence charger inside and had a rubber key to activate. Ground the trailer and wham anyone touches it and they get shocked.
