i see them all the time on my local craigs list.

i drove by one house, out of curiosity, and looked at one tree some guy wanted down. the tree was between the sidewalk and the street and was huge. not only would you have to contend with numerous wires, but the street would have to be blocked off. also, i'm certain in that town, you would need to acquire a permit to remove it.

people try anything to save a buck. "free" fire wood is alot of work. i laugh at them too. when people ask me about cutting a tree down, i tell them to call a professional business. there is no cheap way out.

when i do cut, i look things over carefully. if there is a building nearby, i refuse the job. before i do anything, i make my policy well known in advance:

i hold you not responsible for any damage to my equipment or me, and likewise, you hold me not responsible for any damage that might occur from my cutting.

if we can't shake hands on that agreement, i offer to put it in writing.

right now, i'm cutting several huge oak trees that blew over behind some guy's house. easy job...no climbing and cut as i please.

i see some interesting ads on craigslist

i saw an ad a while back where a guy wanted an oak taken down and removed for $500.i had a feeling he was nuts just from the fact it was an oak.i had to see this tree so i played his game and emailed him.he said he needed it down, everything removed and stump ground.he gave me his address and it wasn't far so i hopped in the tercel and took a drive.here it is :dizzy:  :ices_rofl:

Wow, all that wood and you only had to cut it down, clean it up, stump it AND pay him $500. Bwaaaa haaaa, haaaa, haaaaa:chainsaw:

I assume that you declined.

That's were you need a contract with lots of small print drop the tree whole take the but end and leave him the rest.

However it looks like he can afford a good lawyer or is one.

i thought the same thing...based on his house. surely he can afford a real tree guy.

no,he was willing to pay me the $500.

i told him it would barely cover the fuel and to enjoy the tree for years to come.

i also told him i would drop the tree at the ground for $500 with no guarantee where it would land and he could get rid of all the debris.the job would not be insured either.

"no,he was willing to pay me the $500."

My Bad! I took it the way BlueRidgeMark explained it. Still--no deal, I would have done as you did and tell him to call a pro.

Just to be fair, I've gotten fresh precut to length hard maple with reasonable access...just split and wait for it to dry.

I got a free food processor which needed minor repair.

I got a parts Mac chainsaw for my friend who has the same model.

I've given away on craigslist working TV.

It's a good way to recycle.

What I don't understand is a guy selling one item for $2-5, Is it worth answering the phone, and waiting for someone to pick it up?

I cut a tree like that for a guy once. Worried all night about dropping it on his house. I didn't drop it on his house but I spent two week fixing his yard and sprinkler system (he didn't know that it would leave such big holes when it fell -- and I wasn't smart enough to tell him the difference). I won't do it again.

i am a "PRO" LOL

or so i tell my self.i actually do tree removal for a living.i just wanted to see it and he wasn't far from me so i took a gander.i enjoyed telling him he was insane.

i had another peach last night.large maple on back of house.they just moved in three weeks ago.she saw me in the tree behind her house so came over and asked for an estimate.maple was right on the back of her house.anally manicured and lanscaped back yard with nice gazebo and pool.no room to drop anything with a bull rope or work at the base for the ground guys.there were three dwarf hollies at the base of the tree that i recommended moving.she said she liked them there and we should try to work around them.wanted to know if i had insurance.wanted a price on hauling everything away and a price of getting it down and her husband would get rid of it.where i was going to put it is beyond me.only access was a small gate in the chain link fence.front yard was lanscaped just as silly as the back.everything would have to be drug piece by piece to the street and chipped.every log hand carted out.i told her 3200 to do it all minus the stump and 1500 for just getting it down.she said i sounded awfully expensive.i told here there were plenty of guys with whiskey on there breath that would take it down cheaper.the cheaper the whiskey smelled, the cheaper they would do it for.i also told here they would probably not have insurance or safe equipment but hey,you get what you pay for.you want a bargain, you may just get one.

i hope like hell she doesn't call back.

amazingly while i was there,a buddy of mine was putting hardwood floors in her dining room.
