Hey Randymac. This tunes for you! I had a bit of trouble but I've only been playing since the middle of June.

I found the picture in a thrift store in Spokane years ago. The sign says The White Pine King and I think it was taken in Idaho.

Earplugs are optional. I thought I'd post this in this forum as I do have a picture of logs and most loggers are half deaf (foresters too;)) so it wouldn't hurt your ears---too much.

I have a book with Orange Blossom Special in it, but I think it might be a while.

Aye laddie, that be some fair sawin' on them strings there! Nice couple o logs in that picture too!

Nice job! Im impressed, daughter is learning to play viola and it doesnt look easy.

It isn't. My banjo playing friend tried to talk me into something easier, with frets. After the squealing and screeching (there's a tune with banshee in the title) calm down a bit, there is the battle of playing in tune. I had problems with B yesterday, as you can hear, and I think the D got moved too. Some other stuff went on, like the chin thingy fell off. That's a first.

I have taken my discount college instructor's words as inspiration--"If you can play bassoon, you can play anything." I played bassoon for a few years along with flute and sax, when needed. Yup, I'm a former woodwind nerd. :smile2:

Incredible clarity of notes after six months of training.

I am no player myself, but my wife is a pro playing in the orchestra and she teaches violin too. So I have a hunch how difficult it is...

Thanks. I don't consider it training. It is too much fun. I tried to play fiddle a long time ago, but couldn't keep the thing in tune. I got rid of it. Now they have these cheap to buy electronic tuning devices and it is a snap to get the strings in tune.

Now, eyes back on your mailbox! :)

Well done slowp. I'd like to see someone to try and toss them as cabers!!:kilt:

Amplification! Heresy! :)

Remember, I'm a former bassoonist. If you want a nerdy woodwind to play, that would be it although oboe is just a wee bit less. Nope, don't try that at home.

The poor Used Dog. He has stuck it out--hasn't asked to go ootside, but the pained look in his eyes while I played.....such a loyal beastie.

I've got an acoustic bass that I (don't) play (very well), but I've been at it a little longer than you Patty. Some people just amaze me, they pick up an insturment and in a few months they are playing pretty fair. Me, it has taken me several years to become a poor player. It doesn't help that the fingers on my left hand keep locking up on the fret's. :(

got a couple few of them tuners, some are plug into the wall with lots of pretty lights, others just a puck with a digital needle... makes all the difference in the world to just be in tune, add rhythm and a few easy notes and anybody can sound good, (its that rhythm thing most of us have trouble with...)

For many years I played in a horrid punk band, almost got signed to a real label... kinda let it all slide for the last few years though... to many idiots, drug addicts, drunks, false promises, lies and liars. Think A.C.-D.C.'s Its a Long Way to the Top...

My pinky on my left hand has a hard time reaching. I wouldn't have played anything in public that has a high B in it. I have to figure that out.

It seemed like while I was working, I kept bashing my fingers--one took over a year to get better after I fell on it. It has a backwards bend to it now.

Keep on....my friend says it is wrong to call it practice. He says to call it "playing" and make it fun. That's a good point.

keep working that pinky, just hit the notes you can get to, eventually you'll find that more and more come to ya, I broke my pinky on my left hand when I was 13-14, the end points at about 45 deg. to the rest of em, but I can kinda use it to play chords and what not, no hitting that 4th fret on the the low E string though.... Tony Iomi of Black Sabbath is missing the tips of his ring and middle finger... on his fretting hand...about halfway back to the 1st knuckle if a seen it right
