I have often been accused of seeing things, hearing things that were never said, haleucenating, etc. Today I was driving through this neighborhood and saw a local tree company working. The company's shop is maybe half a mile from my home, tops. They have 2 or 3 bucket trucks, 2 or 3 chippers, a couple spray trucks, etc. So today when I drove by this one place, they had a bucket truck there, along with a chip truck and chipper. They were removing a large oak tree which was located between two homes. They had the chip truck and chipper set up so that the chip truck was almost blocking 1 lane of traffic. Cones, but nobody was directing traffic. There are usually cars going through the neighborhood, not many though... but lots of kids, people with baby strollers, etc.

Here is what has me really stumped. The guy who was feeding the chipper had on a helmet with face guard and ear protection. No chaps, but at least he had the helmet on. The guy who was up in the bucket had on a fall arrest system, but no helmet. The guy who was RIGHT underneath the tree in the LZ working with PWIII had on NO chaps, and NO helmet. He was however sporting a lovely STIHL baseball cap

I think I need to get out of this area, or change my career of choice. WAY too many idiots around here :(

Rarely.

But...

What's that got to do with actually feeding the chipper?

I don't rat em out based on ppe. Very few companys around here adhere to any of that.

Uninsured jacklegs, that's a different story.

How are you gonna make a guy wear all that PPE in that southern heat?
Treeman, don't have a spaz just yet! if you see a ground crew like this then it's time to pack your bags, hitch up the chipper and move on down the road. (*that's butch's crew by the way):D

The company I work for...all PPE, everyone, everyday.

netree - If you are wearing the chaps while chipping, you will be less inclined to make that one cut w/o protection.

Correction, the only time we do not wear hard hats is when we are doing a days worth of shrub work.

How many climber wear chap pants or chaps while climbing?

You're also more encumbered. And more likely to get snagged.

I'll honor your opinion, but there are styles of chaps that are snag free. My fellow climber and I wear husqy chap pants every day. as far as snagging, they would be equivalent to jeans.
I beleive Jonsered offers pants for the same cost as clip on chaps.
That reduces the cost factor as noone wants to swap pants w/ the next guy:rolleyes:
