Started cutting up this tree into logs to do some milling with sometime. No milling yet, just want to get the tree cut up and the logs moved them milled later but thought you might like to see some pictures of it. Going to mill this on my Procut you saw in the 'my new toy' thread.

Here is the start of what I started keeping, not the largest logs but if it were any other tree I would take them.

Here is the middle section of the tree. That's my father in law standing there for size reference.

Here is the bottom of the tree, not the best picture since we hadn't mashed down the weeds yet but you should be able to get an idea.

Here is a shot of a couple of logs on the trailer, in the background you can see where those tree come together, we stopped there for now, next time I get down there I will cut that out to expose the big log those three came out of.

Just another couple of logs from what we have done so far.

Nice logs and trailer. How did you get them on the trailer? Is that a bracket for a winch?

yep, that's a bracket we made to fit the winch, and we had a ramp at the end of the trailer for the logs to ride up on, We put a choker chain around the end of the log then attached the winch line to that. My father in law ran the winch while I used a cant hook to keep the log lined up the best I could and to keep it falling off the ramp.

The ramp started to go on that last big log so we are going to have to beef it up some, plus the winch is only rated for 2000 lbs so I am going to have to take the one I have down there so we can use them both for the rest of the logs.

Thanks for the pics.

What kind of tree ?

Tree....oh yeah forgot that part. Its a Coffee Bean tree. I made a bed out of coffee bean once, here is a pic of it.

Nice logs. Nice bed frame.

Looking forward to the rest of the story :popcorn:

great looking bed!

The wood looks very similar to red oak or ash, looks fantastic on that mission style bed.

Is your coffee bean tree the same as "Kentucky Coffee Tree"?

I have a lot of that here.

Looking forward to pics of those logs getting opened up.

Aaron;
Why not take the mill to the tree, and leave the mess with the stump and brush, and take the lumber home on the mill. Jim P.S. The wife loves your new bed, It is excellent. Jim

We cut 7 logs so far, the first load had 3 on it (not pictured), the other loads had two logs each, since they are getting bigger we didn't want to haul to many. Also they have hedge bushes in the field where the tree is and we have to be VERY careful with tires.

Right now we are just trying to get the tree cut up and out of the people's way. It was just faster to cut the logs, haul them back to the FIL, (only 5 minutes away) and mill them later. When we get to the larger end of the tree we are not sure that we will be able to haul them and it might be milled on the spot (since the mill has two winches), but for now we are going to try and haul everything, just so we can get it out of their way.

I am sure they would like to see one milled and see what the process is, so I might just do it to show them. After it dries I want to make them something out of it, so they can say this was made from their tree, and since they are giving it to me for free I thought it was the least I could do.

Giving them some of the wood is a good idea so they can make something. You know the feeling you get when you make something out of wood that you milled, and if the tree came from yours or family property it even makes it better. You will soon have all the wood you need to keep you milling all winter. Keep up the good work. Jim

here are some more logs

Well finally got the rest of the tree cut up and here are a few shots of the logs that came out of it. These logs are in addition to the ones that I have already shown earlier in the thread.
