I have METAL WEDGES and a Sledge hammer. But at 75 I've been using wood wedges ONLY for Felling and bucking. The 22 Ton splitter does the hard work. I've used One steel and two Gluts ( wooden) back when I was only 69 but not now. I don't climb anymore either but Ill drop buck and smile as long as I can. Id NEVER use ANY KIND OF METAL wedge NEAR a chainsaw BUT IF it's one of these BIG LEANERS, once the saw is out, I'm NOT ashamed to put a huge (2) metal wedges in and use a sledge. In the past 30 years I've resorted to that only once. That tree had to be straightened up and tossed against the lean. When it fell perfectly in the lay I was relieved and The Stump had two huge marks left from the wedges on it. Never say never. Sometimes we never know IF We'll resort to a new trick. In fact that tree was big enough that I killed the saw and had plenty of room to drive wedges WITHOUT the danger of a Chain Strike. Then the saw was pulled clear and those bad boys did the rest. I kept filling the gap with wood wedges JUST IN case the metal ones jumped out. All these years and I've not been badly hurt but I NEVER take my work lightly. It's dangerous. Good luck and blessings.
