Just a firewood cutter. Most of the wood I cut is already on the ground. A friend has a couple of Oaks he wants cut down. They'll need to be pulled over. I have a bull rope, and I've made a throw weight out of a tennis ball with rocks in it and using 150' of 3/16" nylon/polypropylene blend rope for a throw line. I tried it out today on a Oak (not sure which species of Oak) and I think I need a heavier throw weight and/or some lubricant for the throw line. I've read about using a rubber mallet (1lb. size and cutting off the handle) then add a screw-in eye to use as a throw weight, I'll have to give it a try. I've seen at Bailey's where they have a product called Ballistol Lubricant for throw lines. Is there any other product that Home Depot or Lowes (or any hardware store) would have? I'll be in town tomorrow and I'd like to pick up some kind of lubricant.

Mods, if this is in the wrong forum, move it to where it should be. Thanks.

Kevin

Pull the line through some carnuba car wax or soemthing like that. I am guessing you are very close to a store where you could buy a ball? They are like 6 bucks. If throwing by hand 16 ozs is ok and you could go lighter .

I just did a quick Google of lubricants and saw a few silicone lubricants. Hadn't thought about the car wax, thanks for that. I'm about 9 miles to the closet town...which is almost a dot on the map. I will be in a city tomorrow evening.

Yes, I'll be throwing by hand.

Hey Kevin, you can get 100' hanks of the old slick line from Sherrill for like six bucks. Not too much more for a real throw bag either. If you wanted to order online you'd have a real throwline setup for very few beans. The old slick line is not as high performance as the zing-it or fling-it but still works just fine.

Shoot, guess I should have checked around, oh well. I'll use what I have for the tree felling on Saturday. Thanks anyway.

I didn't see the $6 line at the Sherrill website, but I did see it at the Wesspur site.
