Hello all, i am currently studying arb at college and thoroughly enjoy it. I am building my kit up gradually to start my own business. I use a stihl at college for pruning up trees and removing branches. Are there any better, lighter, cheaper top handle chainsaws i could purchase to help me???

If any one has any better advice my e-mail is [email protected]

many regards
tony

If you want cheaper and better go with the stihl192t. It runs around 300 but a very good little saw to start out with. You may be able to pick up a used one off of e-bay but only deal with someone who is 100%. Anything less and you can be getting more trouble than you want.

Let me guess that you have enough schooling under your belt and now you are planning on going out on your own to make some mad money? I hope for your sake you get some experience with professionals either by watching them or working with them directly. Stay safe out there we have way too many contributions to the injury and fatality thread.

Oh yeah, welcome to arboristsite! Lets of good people on here with great advice to help you take better care of trees!

if you are doing tree work professionally stick with the 200 ,,192 is a good saw but will not stand up to everyday use, and removals will take there toll on it.
welcome to arborsite,

Completely and whole heartily agree with B Edwards!! The 192 and the 200 are not the same breed. If you got a MS200T, you got the best. Now put a 16" bar on it and get to climbing. For ground saws I use 372xp witha 20" bar for brushing and the 395xp with a 24" bar for cutting down the bigger stuff. Spend the money and buy the chain in rolls especially for the ground saws. And remember "It's smart to learn from your mistakes and genius to learn from someone else's."

i think i like this place lol i agree with every one. i have been using ms200t since it was called a 020t. cheaper and lighter saw's u can get some like redmax. but u cant beat the ms200t for up in the tree. i use 372 for ground and bigger tree's 066 with a 3 foot bar

a 16 inch bar ?? surley not ? 13 is almost too big ,, a 16 must suck alot of power out of it,,
personally i use a 12 inch bar and when i need something bigger i use a ms460
with a 20 inch,
i would have said the 16 inch was too slow for knocking a decent head out of a tree.

200t x 16" for me too ...

YUP!!!!! The only way to make full use of the little powehouse!!!

Now, if money is tight look at the Echo TH saws or the 192. I started out with the 192t, I had the money for the 200 but cheapend out. I regreted that for a long time!!! If you do this long at all, you will get a 200t!

There are a few that like the Husky TH saws, but they require a little working over to get the power, and there are many more happier with the 200t.

the Stihl MS 200 T is my overall choice of top handle saws. has alot of power, balanced perfect and is light to carry into the tree.
