Hello

Saw a reference to titanium bars in another thread. Rather than hijack that thread I figured to ask my questions here.

How much lighter are the Titanium bars than the steel counter parts ? Say 20in vs 20in and 32in vs 32in ?

Is the bar actually Ti ? Is the roller tip steel or Ti ?

What is the price delta between standard and the Ti bars ?

How about bar life do the Ti bars compare favorably to Steel ?

Does anyone actually run one of these Ti bars ?

Does these bars actual exsist or possibly I mis-understood the other thread on GB bars.

As inexpensive as they are, I doubt there's much (if any) titanium in the mix.  They don't weigh appreciably (if any) less if the ones I've handled were true examples.  They have been reported to be quite tough and long-lasting, though.

I like the German Stihl bars with the large-diameter noses, myself.

I have a 44" bar that said titanium in big blue letters. The mechanic at the local Stihl/Husky shop said it doesn't have anything to do with the metal.

The titanium content is minute. Not enough to affect the weight of the alloy. It affects how the steel responds to the heat treating of the rails and gives a fine grain structure. Pure titanium would be one of the worst metals for sliding contact wear.
