What is the difference between a Consulting Arborist and a Certified Arborist. Is the consulting title just tacked on there by the person or did they actually have to do something like take a test to be a "consulting arborist"?
--When you see C.A. behind a name is that Consulting or Certified??

Just curious....

Certified Arborist realy means nothign without the ISA before it. ISA certification is a minimum knowledge credential done by a private not for profit organization. ISA Certified Arborist is a legaly protected cerdential.

A consulting arborist is a person who renders profesional opinions as to tree issues. These can be valuation, risk assesment, expert witness in litigation. For these people RCA, or Registered Consulting Arborist is the protected credential, they have a more stringent qualification that includes past education, report writing and passing thier acadamy. These are usualy "men of letters" Some I have talked to have multiple degrees in different disciplines. http://www.asca-consultants.org/

I am an arborist and a consultant, but neither certified or registered. If I used either title, they could, and would, take me to court.

As Tom D. stated in a similar thread, most will spell it all out on buisness cards. With their certification/registration number.
