[Great weather for milling today, went back to the area we have been milling hemlock and did six boards. We still have one full log left then the one nearest the stump had one board millied off it, I’ll do that last because it looks like the rhino will be pulling it out some so I can get it off the ground.

Took one chain back in (just sharpened in the morning) was stil ripping good after six boards.

Thanks for the pics.

I envy your shade. :wink2: I always seem to end up milling in the broiling sun.

Perfect time of year for milling or cutting firewood, we had a low of 45 last night with the temps today just over 70. We have some nice tall cherry trees & hemlocks for shade in this area.

After milling tomorrow we will have 53 boards or more (not much) but it's a good start. We did get the plans for the cabin/camp we plan on building so after this week the boards will be .75 to 1.00 inch thick.

You have to love the smell of fresh cut Hemlock (Tsuga Canadensis) and that ain't really sap, it's water. Excellent wood to work with (till ya hit a knot) I wish I had more. I made a headboard out of some for a girl years ago that she had drawn a tree onto and then I carved it in. Good times but long ago fallen star. Looks dry there now...somewhat.

Lots of sand in our area (great drainage) we lucked out with this last storm (Lee) it rained hard but nothing like the Mohawk Valley or PA received.

The first time we milled hemlock I could not believe the smell, been loving it since.

:msp_w00t: Thanks for sharing your milling pictures.. Been on a tractor for three weeks baling and raking and hauling hay and green feed.. And it all starts for another four days on friday.. This sure makes up for the roundy round game in the field..

How big is the cabin you plan to build? Board and Batten siding? :msp_w00t:
