I went today to check out a job I've got to do tomorrow at the city zoo. Its a large, very dead Water Oak, I think. It basically is one central trunk that forks into a 'V' at 35'. One of the 'V's is broken and hung-up in another tree. Its not very secure where it broke; It looks like I could probably just kick it hard and the whole dang thing would come down.

In my 26 yrs its the worst I've ever seen. Everythings gonna have to be rigged out of the surrounding trees. Nothing can fall, buildings and walkways are everywhere. No access for a crane. And its the zoo, a real PITA place to work in.
:(

I bought a big box of Wheaties tonight, I think I'm gonna need it in the morning!

I hope you are getting paid by the hour!

Probably $300. It will take most of the day, I expect. I'm borrowing extra ropes from diff co. so I have plenty. It will be the most rigging I've ever done.
Tonight I'm thinking deep Zen thoughts, becoming one with the tree, and the surroundings.

Ommmmmm...

Oh I’m not worried that Butch can’t handle the job at hand, but I’m kinda worried that when the zookeepers see how well he swings through the trees well we just might have a hard time getting him back.

$300./HOUR? No way would any state agency in NC pay that. Every time I propose to fix a tree problem I hear about budgets:rolleyes:
Rocky, if there are other trees to rig to, howis the risk higher?
I've upped my rates when client neglect increases my risk too.
Does "internal risk factor" refer to the knots you feel in your gut as you wonder if you'll survive the job?

That figure was for the day, Guy.

When I work a job for myself I can sometimes pull that kind of cash. This is a sub job. Not as much moola. :(

I've got a friend who was a Marine Engineer in Vietnam. He tells me stories about accurately dropping trees with C4. sounds like this might be the easiest way to go in this situation. and it'd be a great show for all the kids visiting the zoo! :D

No access for a crane, with really no drop zone whatsoever. It will probably take me till 11 to set all the ropes in 3 to 4 different trees. Then, the fun will begin.

I wish there was some way to tape the whole event. Its gonna be the biggest can of worms I've ever opened!

So if ya'll don't see me bump this thread tomorrow, ya'll will know somethings up!

Hey Carl, you outta jump in your truck and head this way. You've got time if you leave tonight!

As long as nothing shows up in an upcoming 'Faces of Death' video, I'll be happy!

Neat link, Rob. I didn't know about that one.

THATS where I'll be in the morning! :)

Probably a little late but can't you use a portable lift? At least theres some other trees around...

you are wasting your time.. 300/day on that kind of risk seems foolish .... Sorry to be so blunt. I wouldnt touch a job like that for under a grand. And that would be on the low side... You are selling yourself way short.. THis isnt the kind of job that they can just let slide .. It is a must do reguardless of budgets.

Perhaps you don't understand. This is not my job. I an a subcontract climber. The price on the tree is $2950.

All I do is show up, get it down, and go home.

I hope to be home by 2, at the latest. :)

Nope it aint his insurance. He just walks on and cuts it down.

I wish I could come over tommorrow, but I would have to be back here (actually an hour east of here) by 9:00 AM for court on wed. in Alabama.

Sounds like it is gonna be fun, take lots of pics.

If another tree company has been awarded the job. Why are you being subbed out for this job.

Is this tree company an all bucket type operation with no climbers or do they have climbers but don't think they can handle the job and do it right, so they have to bring in someone who can do it right.
