Has any body ever put a winch and tongs on a forwarder? Are the booms heavy Enough to skid with ? Please post a picture if any one has seen or done this.

That loader is not designed to handle that kind of load. The swing grapple skidders have a much heavier boom and grapple set up on them.

i have been told those old iron mules had a winch on them, I don't know where or what the intended purpose was

I've seen some machines with a winch. They aren't set up for skidding full time. More like pulling a stem or log here and there. I'd love to have a nice winch set up on mine. Just not sure where I'd go with it. In the meantime I've just found a better way to put wood on the ground in order to reach it.

Bitzer- an outfit like yours with the shorter frame is what i was picturing. not to toss so much as to use for those just out of the way pieces. And not to mention what an aid a winch on a little forwarder in riggin/tree removal. A self loader in town has a winch on his boom that he uses for clean-up and strays. That is were all this idea came from. I am sure it has been done somewhere.
