Hello all
I was wondering which brands have the highest trade in & resale value. Also does the pro saws have a higher trade value than the lower homeowner saws

Any of the good saw brands will retain a goodly bit of their value, as a percentage of purchase price, over time if they're taken care of.

Look on eBay, you'll get a pretty good sense of what holds its value, what loses value, and what actually gains value it doesn't deserve to have when the eBay morons get to bidding them up.

Some things I've noticed about EBay and saw sellin.

On Ebay, Stihl rules the roost.
They often get close to list price for used saws.
I think that it is the lack of online distributors that make them in demand.
There is also, of course the perception, right or wrong, by MANY that Stihl is the best saw out there.

Also, I think, if you do a search for Husky, there are a plethora of dealers that are selling brand new saws, and of course, this cuts into the number of potential buyers that might otherwise look at used saws.

Regardless, the thing to do on Ebay is use it to your best advantage.
Use lots of pics, make sure the saw looks good, and clean, and even video is a big plus. I am absolutely convinced that good photos make a big difference.

Also, people love a new bar and chain. Even on a ten year old saw, if you throw a brand new shiny bar on it, people respond to that. Silly, but it is human nature.

Good luck to ya.

Good points, old Stihls like the 044 and 038 Mag go for quite a bit 300-500 bucks even well used on ebay. Its the best place to sell a chainsaw in my opinion. I sold a 260 for a friend there and got 300+ shipping for it. The thing about Husky may change now that they are going to be dealer only saws again with the exception of Northern Tool. I can imagine that a used 371 or 372 would bring just about as much cash as a used 044 or 038 Mag, similarly a 394/395 would be worth similar cash to the 066/660. But...I havent really done my homework on the Husky saws...they are great saws which I would buy iof the price was right or I wanted one...I just like the Stihls...they were my first better chainsaw and I'll probably always be attached to them. To answer the question, get a pro Husky, Stihl, Jonsred, Dolmar or Echo saw and take care of it...it will continue to hold its value...and especially during firewood and/or hurricane season...see how most people are short sighted?

Stihl Crazy
None of the dealers around me will take trade ins. You can leave your old saw and they will try to sell it for you.

Excellent point, but Stan is in North Carolina. He could post his saw for sale here and move it in a week, two weeks on the outside. Stan may even find someone around North Carolina to sell to saw to (which he hasn't even bought yet).
