It is a good set but you may benefit more from some direct training. Planning on climbing or do you climb already?

Not a climber

I went to a training session put on by Sherrill. Kind of a one day training and sales presentation. I bought a saddle, wire core lanyard etc. I have climbed a few times but am not comfortable at all. We use a bucket truck most of the time. I bid climbing jobs high to pay another guy. (he uses spikes and I am not comfortable with this) I hate to learn to climb from a guy that uses spikes if I don't intend to use them.

I have worked with trees for 35 years and in the year 2000 at 42 yrs old I took my first ArborMaster Training course "climbing skills". I just brought myself and about $400 and they outfitted me and the other 15 students to learn how to climb footlocking on the splittail dynamic system for 2 days. Best $400 I ever spent. I have taken more courses since. 8 years later at age 50 I am running a strong profitable treeservice and am in the best physical condition of my life. Believe me take some proper training and watch the videos later.:)

Training

In the Kansas City area the only class I know of is put on by the Kansas Arborists Association. It is full immediately. Last year I even joined the organization to get the mailings first. Turns out I joined in October 07 and paid a year membership. It ran out in December so I wasn't a member......seems like they would have mentioned this when soliciting membership on the basis of getting the mailing earlier. Oh well, still a good organization doing good things. Thanks for all the replies.

I strongly second that. I have been doing this for a long time, and in 2004 I spent 2 weeks in Richmond, VA at Arbormaster training. Yes, It cost me a bunch of money (training expense, hotel & food plus 2 weeks of lost work) however, it was probably the best money I have ever spent on my company. Since the training, we work MUCH safer, and much more productively. I went back last fall and took the only remaining course (Precision Felling 2). I can't say enough about the quality of the instructors, the amount of knowledge and skill that was learned and the overall positive influence on my business. Do what you can to take as many Arbormaster courses as possible.
