Hi folks! Left this post on another forum before I found this one. I'm a crew superintendent for a fuels/fire crew. I'm always on the lookout for good training videos for the crew. Back in my hotshot days I saw a clip from a video of a chain saw cutting in slow motion. It was an excellent way of describing the dynamics of the chain. Anybody seen this and know where I can find it. Also, I currently teach out of the "Feller and Bucker guide" made by the Canadian Workers Comp folks. Great little book, much better than the USFS wildfire chainsaw course literature. Does anybody have any other gems they'd like to share?

Welcome to the site. I have read that book many times over the years, it has changed a bit, but still great. There is some good stuff on the net, but that little book tells it like it is.

1) Where are copies of the "Feller and Bucker guide" available? Thanks.

2) They are pretty basic, but STIHL has some videos for free viewing on their website, and on DVD for $5 + shipping (or at dealers). You might want to use parts of those. "STIHL Chain Saw Safety, Operation & Maintenance Video" http://stihldealer.net/videolibrary/

Thanks, the video I saw wasnt stihl, it was quite old, VHS!
The link for the handbook

http://courses.forestry.ubc.ca/ben####son/FOPRLibrary/Library/Safe Work/WCB fallers_buckers.pdf

If that doesnt work, just google Fallers' and Buckers' handbook
or
www.worksafebc.com

Thanks Zephyr,

The publication is now called: "BC Faller Training Standards, Part 1 and Part 2"
These pocket-size flip books update the old Fallers’ and Buckers’ Handbook. Useful for a new or experienced faller, forty sections provide information on clothing and personal protective equipment, protection from musculoskeletal injury, chainsaw maintenance, filing and handling information, crew transport, dangerous tree indicators, and procedures for dealing with various falling scenarios, alternative falling methods, limbing, adverse weather, bucking hazards and windthrow.
I found them at http://www.worksafebc.com/publications/health_and_safety/by_topic/forestry/default.asp

I found the older version of this guide (easier to read than newer 'flip-book' format) by Googling " Fallers' and buckers' handbook ".

For some reason, each time I try to paste the direct link, I get the " The page cannot be found " error. Sorry - have to go the Google route to access it.
