Transplanting (3) 2" Austrian Pines

I am setting up to do a job where I need to transplant (3) 2" Austrian Pines about 200 ' on the same property and repalace them with Vanderwoolf Pines.

I have lots of expereince as a landscape contractor with properly planting trees, but I was wondering if anybody had any special advice to garuantee survival of the transplanted trees.

Thanks in advance fellas.

OOPS typo -- fixed

Hello,

Tahnks for the reply -- I typoed the last message and went back and editied it. They are 2" diameter trees.

My plan is to dig the trees our using about 2 foot rootball. Use a ballcart to trapse them over to the new site where I put them down ina 3' wide hole backfilled with a mixture of compost and soil and use Transplant 1-step from Roots Inc.

And then use Gatorbags on all three trees to ensure good watering.

Sound like a good plan?

Sounds like you are on top of it. The larger the ball, the better. They tend to crumble. I would shoot for as big as possible.

Dito.

I would also excavate the basal flair prior to digging to ensure proper depth in the new location.

Maybe do it a few days prior and then water back to settle the soil you disturbed.

IMO the beginning of the first order roots should be exposed on any tree we want to live 50 years.

Its probably done already. So much for digging advice.

For survival, we started using that Rain Cloud or whatever its called, from the nursery, that seals and reduces transpiration.

Mulch will be worth 40% worth of survival rate.

If these could wait until fall, that's worth about 80% in the survival rate factor.

A landscape here in Beaverton just showed me this new kit available via an irrigation supplier for trees or plants in low, or non-irrigation areas.

Its a jell that goes in a tube. It looks like a synthetic clear Jello that somehow releases water.

Just saw it for the first time and don't remember the name. I want to see the results or hear about the results first..
