Local arborist confirmed 2-lined chestnut borer in my white oaks and suggested Imidacloprid soil drench as a possible treatment. They discussed an off-label use of some new EAB treatment as a possible route, but they are not inclined to perform off-label, non-approved experimental treatments. Any other suggestions?
The trees have been in decline for some years, and I've worked on improving their root zone as best I can given placement of driveway, dog run, house, garage, etc., and trimmed out all dead wood last year. These are huge trees that are central to the landscape, and would be hugely expensive to remove if it came to that, so I'm open to more drastic suggestions to slow or stop the decline.
