I am an arborist moving to Bend OR. from Salt Lake City Ut. at the end of the month, and was wondering if any one out there knows the lay of the land. Who are the reputable, ISA certified company's, and arborists? Have you, or do you now work in the area? Is anyone looking to hire a skilled climber? What are the trees like? What is the tree care history of Bend IE; was there allot of topping in the past or has the areas tree been taken care of properly? Any input about the area would be helpful, thank you.

Why Bend?

No problem with it - just curious.

Why don't you look up the Oregon Landscape Contractors Association online.

Not the landscape board that licenses, but the landscape association, abbreviated OLCA.

There is overlap in Oregon where some companies do tree work and landscape work, and even with just landscape contractors, they might have some good leads for you. If you join the association for an inconsequential fee, you may be able to snatch some referrals and business from some of the licensed landscape contractors.

If you go into business, the Oregon Construction Contractors Board is who you want to contact about getting your license for tree work. You could do tree work with the landscape license, but the landscape tests are much harder. Although it would allow you to advertise tree planting.

Hey HC,

This is Chris, just e-mailed you as a matter of fact. Good to see your serious about heading West. I suppose I am posting now to address Mr. Vaden's comment.

M.D. I've been trying to learn a bit more about the variances between the CCB license and the LCB. A lady at the LCB told me last week that their license doesn't allow for any removal work. I'm not sure I believe her. But she said "Pruning only to a height of 15' ( work done on tree) and no removals."

I'm trying to focus on the positive but things are getting interesting over here since the bubble burst. Craigslist has a lot of advertisement for illegitimate work. I'm trying to brush up on the legal details and would appreciate any resource you can point me toward.
