Today I had to use my kayak to pull a rope across a pond to a rigging point to use to help drop a storm damaged tree inaccessible with a bucket and way to dangerous to climb. Everything worked better then I would have ever imagined. So whats everyone's experiences with using boats for tree work?

Ohhhhh boy here goes I used this several time to pull logs off one of my customers cliff in his unworkable back yard. I pull them to the ramp and load with the grapple truck!

I have been out on the water with friends or family just out joshing around, the people we would party barge with would find out I climbed trees. Bingo next weekend I would be hanging a rope swing or two. So I have gotten work with a boat, but never used one at work. Sounds like just to good of a day.

tree work on islands

ive done tree work on islands and also done tree work off of barges, we dropped 19 big ol pines on the back of clients section, we hired a barge and skylined everything to it, on said barge was a chipper i hired and all our gear we chipped all the slash had tug pull us round to a boat ramp and we unloaded the mulch with the t190 into trucks and back again for some more work, 4 loads of chip and 4 loads of logs. was a awesome job and made some good coin on it to haha

I dropped a top in a river in Trenton, N.J. No need for a boat. Just added structure for the fish. lol We got it with the pole.

LT...

Have to use a punt to prune mangroves around walk-on boat moorings...gets a little skiddy, and stinky with all the branches loaded into it (mangrove mud is smelly!)

what do you do with the branches, we use mangrove wood for smoking fish and beef jerky but its so damn hard i scared to put it into my chipper.

Nothing special...it goes to the Government dump for composting.
Never knew it was a good smoking wood, our two mangrove species are red mangrove (Rhizophora mangle) and black mangrove (Avicenia nitida...genus spelling is suspect...!) They are both protected species, you need permission to cut them, can only be cut where historical boat access exists, like over 60 years.

Our mangrove here is Avicennia marina subsp. australasica, its only found in the warmer northern parts of new zealand and same as where you are they are protected (damn weeds).

they are brilliant for smoking with, cutting them sucks though, have to use a semi chisel chain as there is grit embeded into the wood.

we use our canoe to pull over over trees on the lake here.
