Hey,

I have a Tree Farmer C5C (CanCar) with a Detroit 353 in it. I use it for personal use, firewood (outdoor wood stove) and ploughing the driveway.

The other day the engine let go on me while hauling a fairly large load. It was a high power setting and just shut down to an idle. It now only idles, as soon as I give it any gas it cuts out. Exhuast smoke seems to be mostly white, fuel pump looks ok too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

streching my authority a bit here, so with caution..... sounds like it must not be getting fuel. Filter?

Thanks, I'm just surprised at the timing. I will check the filter ASAP, my real work is dragging me down, keeping me from the important stuff.

Not familiar with the 353, but from what you're describing it could be a few things off the top of my head. First things first, check the fuel filter like has been said. Next, check your lift pump if you have one, if its a vacuum type pump (meaning its located forward of the tank), replace the fuel lines from the tank to the pump, if they crack, they won't often leak, they'll just suck in air and give you that nasty white smoke. Next thing I'd check is timing, if it slips too much, it won't rev up and will also give you that white smoke. If you still haven't found it yet, its more serious, like, a bad IP, a cracked cylinder liner (if it has one), a blown headgasket leaking coolant into the cylinder, or any number of things.
