No photos, folks... sorry. I was too busy cleaning up to go get the camera. I'll see if I can get out there tomorrow for a snapshot.
There was a lull in the rain today so I figured I'd get some work done. Was felling a 19" red maple, it went where I wanted. But on the way down it sideswiped another, smaller maple. I kinda figured it might. It's pretty close quarters out here.
Anyhoo, the sideswiped maple was rotten at the base, darn carpenter ants. It broke and fell across the road. I didn't know the tree base was rotten. There was no outward evidence of it.
Thankfully, there were no cars going by when it fell. My first thought was aw hell... if a car runs into that tree... or some eager beaver calls the cops, I'm gonna be up the crick. :msp_scared:
I grabbed the saw, hustled out to where the tree was laying and started cutting off the brush, pulling it out of the way. The tree top just covered the eastbound lane. I got that cleared and the lane open. Meanwhile the westbound lane was backing up and folks were driving around it.
A Good Samaritan came over and started dragging brush to the side. "You keep cutting" he said. "I'll clear this stuff." Within a few minutes we had the other lane open. I thanked him for his help and went back to work cleaning up.
Took me over an hour to get all the brush out of the ditches, chained and dragged back to the woods. Then another hour or so to cut and load all the bigger pieces and cart them to the splitting pile. All that was left was some sawdust on the westbound berm.
Then it started raining again. I decided I'd had all the amusement I could stand for one day and called it a day's work.
Be careful out there, my friends. You just never know.
