I was wondering how many out there actually take vacations from tree work to go see/climb trees in other parts of the world?

I made a trip to northern Cali a few years back to see the coastal redwoods, hoping to go on an eco-vacation in central america this winter.

Anybody else?

Cathrdral Grove on Vancouver Island certainly is something to see, though not quite as spectacular as the coastal redwoods. I did see Lady Bird Johnson Grove when passing through in 1982 by car, and also saw Muir Woods fall 2003 when I was in SFO.

I rarely travel without my climbing gear. Even if I'm not going to teach or present it goes along if there is even a remote chance of climbing.

Since this is my normal plan I've had the great opportunity to climb in many places around the US, Europe, Scandinavia and the UK.

Was in Tasmania last December, our touring/exploring/camping route around the island was heavily dictated by all the 'Big Tree' walks and skywalks, show me the trees!

While climbing in Cali, did you see any spotted owls, or just a bunch of liberals? :jester:

Yep some big trees in Tassie and here in South East Victoria for a climbing holiday.

I'd love to climb some of the iconic trees of other parts of the world.....one day:popcorn:

Went on vacation a couple months ago to NYC. To be honest, tree climbing was the last thing on my mind. But as I was walking through Battery Park to go see the Statue Of Liberty, there was an outfit teaching people how to climb trees. Of course, I had to go over to talk and share techniques and stories. Made me wonder if next time I go on vacation, I should bring my gear-if I can run into tree climbers in NYC, where else can I meet them.
