A quick question - before Winter, is it recommended to cut off the dried up flower blooms? Last year when we planted this tree, it made it through the snowy season, but was really drooping due to the weight of the blooms and all the snow that had accumulated on them. We initially were told (from a well established and excellent nursery) to only cut them off in Spring, but that just does not seem accurate. This growing season, the tree did not look as green and healthy either. Thoughts? (I think I'm going to cut them off before the snow flies....)

Cut them in spring to force new flowering. If you cut them in winter you might get more vegetative growth than normal..
