its kinba hard to tell. if catkins are present on it i would be inclined to say maybe a gray birch(betula populifolia).
im not sure but the bark exhibits similar characteristics and the leaves look slighty like birch in the photo, although i dont know for sure.

Zelklova

Zelklova serrata (japense zelklova) as long as the leaf margins are serrate. Otherwise, dont know.

OK... So is it an Elm or a Birch??? The bark as i remember was pretty smooth.

At first glance of the overall forum, it sure looked a lot like raywood ash.

But although raywood ash has some serration on the leaves, they are much narrower usually.

Looks like a small Japanese maple by the pond in the background.

I was not sure yesterday because I have not seen one in a while . I saw one today and I am going to say Zelkova for sure .It is being used as A street tree replace for American Elm due to the vase shaped canopy.

Its a form of Elm that is VERY resistant to DED.

It is 100% Zelkova.

Nice trees, keep them pruned up, they have a rather poor growth pattern when left to their own.

Thanks guys...My first thought was that it was some type of elm, but i had never seen an elm with bark that smooth before.
