I have been wondering about these trees for awhile so I did a little searching today and believe I have identified it. We have a reasearch facility here in my home town with a pretty good variaity of trees and I was not familiar with this one. You are correct Sirs. This is not a real common tree here that I have noticed but I sure like them.

+3 - sometimes call it a "bee tree". Hmmmmm....wonder why. The wood is good for carving.

Looks like a Redmond variety of the American Linden.....Tilia americana var 'Redmond'
