I ran across this tree at my daughter's school on Virginia's Eastern Shore. It has bipinnate compound leaves with 11-13 leaflets on the ones I counted. The pictured leaf is missing 2 of the leaflets and looks a bit less deep green and shiny than some of the others on the tree. The seed pods look really distinctive but I can't place them. The bark is a medium grey with moderately deep vertical furrows and what look like some lichen spots.
Looks from the seed pods like this should be easy to ID, but I'm drawing a blank. The tree was planted in the open with full sun on the school grounds, so it is pretty ideal growing conditions.
Any help in the ID is appreciated.
