Visited a friends church and he was showing me some tree's he'd like for me to remove for him...cell phone was in the car and all I managed to do was to grab 3 different leaves from the accompanying tree's.
I'm still very fuzzy on tree ID...sure could use some expert help.

Thanks
Reg

The middle one looks somewhat like a Black Jack Oak.
Black Jacks will almost always have quite a few dead limbs on the lower part of the tree.
Once dry it is very good firewood.

I appreciate that.
Out of the 3 Oaks identified which one would you guys say has the highest BTU output? :chainsaw:

I vote for the Black Jack.
However, the other two would also be very good firewood.

I would say they are all awesome!!!

The middle one looks like a leaf from my line white oak that I have.

As a rule the white oak family will be higher in BTUs than the red oak family... there may exceptions, but not that I'm aware of.
Also, again as a rule, the white oaks will have a lower green moisture content... red oaks average around 80%, white oaks average around 65%.

Thanks Whitespider...besides my wife being allergic to red oak smoke...it is a beast even in Alabama to season...minimum 2 yrs if you're lucky!

All three are oak, all three will make good firewood.

I would say white oak would have a higher BTU. Chestnut oak will probably be your best bet.
