have any of you guys been planting trees this summer...im talking container grown stuff..if so what type of trees did you plant and did you mulch and install any iragation

I did and am going to.:) We used a cow pewp based fertilizer and used cedar mulch. I planted another maple and am getting ready to transplant two Coastal Reds I've been growing in a pot since last fall. I hope they survive seing I live in NewEngland:eek: They are about three and a half inches now. Any one think It's a bit early for the lil' guys to get released to the wild ? Thats all for now.;) My wife isnt appreciating all the shade I'm creating but I can't stop !

Planted a Dogwood in memorial to deceased neighbor at his house about a month ago. Property already has sprinkler for lawn. Tree is in a flower bed so has some existing mulch. Planted some red oaks over the weekend on my property that I got at Lowes next to nothing cause they were clearing out trees that did not sell this spring. I have existing sprinkler and mulched. Probably going to get a crepe myrtle this weekend to replace another lost tree from hurricane last year.

Summer Already?

I planted a little Acer palmatum 'Red Pygmy' that I grafted about 7 years ago. I have been holding it in a full gallon all that time. I feared that if I didn't get it in the ground or bump it up to a larger container that it would fold up on me. I planted it in early spring and it has loved being in the ground. It is about 4 feet from a 'Crimson Queen' on one side and about 4 feet from an Acer japonicum 'Green Cascade' on the other side. It should lend an interesting mix of leaf textures when they mature. I have a lot more planting that needs to be done. No irrigation at present.

I have been planting all along, i am looking forward to next week, I get to do a 2 day in and out on a yard that is basically bare but for some grass. I designed the plan and the customers actually wanted more trees! So we are putting in : a Stewartia pseudocamellia, a pair of Styrax japonicus, a Liquidambar styraciflua and a Cornus kousa.. in a yard that is about 40 by 60 feet. Should be a hoot. I will try to throw up a pic after we are done. oh, planted size will be about 2" caliper for all trees. How are the planting methods for installers? We clip and remove the top 1/3 of the wire basket, bury the excess burlap (roll back and tuck), bone meal, mycorhizzae dusted at the base of the hole mulch with 2" compost bark mulch kept at least 4 inches from the trunk flare (what is the PC term we are supposed to use here Guy?) and staked only when exposed to prevalent or strong storm winds. Staking is two opposite 2" diameter 6 foot fenceposts, perpendicular to prevailing wind direction with 2" strapping just less than hand tight, removed after 1 year (we do a complimentary follow up visit for this). Irrigation is up to the customer although I usually have at least 1 or 2 - 25' weeping hoses in the truck and I will offer to place them and charge the customer only for my cost on the hose. I pick them up at a wholesale joint for about $15.
