Tree problem.......Bark falling off

Im not sure if this is the right place to post but
I posted on A jeep forum Im a member on and they said to look for a website like this one and post up.....So here I am

this is one of the couple of trees that are doing this on my property it is about 30-40 feet high. its missing bark on about 1/3 of it around and 10-15 feet up but it looks like it has healed itself.....it still has green leaves on it.
should I cut it down because 1/3 pf the wood is showing? :greenchainsaw: there is a tree about 3 feet away that is compleatly dead
the lot used to be really wet but with not getting much rain this year it is very dry. also there is now a ditch close to this tree that I had dug in november.

Im hoping to not loose anymore trees there are 10 trees now like this. I had already cut down all the ones that I wanted and really dont want to drop these ones or any others.

so what do you guys/girls think???

Ive probably cut and dropped around 100 trees and lots of brush off the lot
there is a ditch that came into the property and the water went all over so the lot was pretty wet. Since the ditch was put in it has really dried up. Im not sure what can be causing this

Now that you have your drainage issues somewhat stabilized replace them with some others.

i for one would definately cut those down,,,they are a hazard and appear to be diseased,,,maybe a cambial fungus? i did see that the trees are trying to seal of the wound though,,,i also seen some sucker growth which is obviously not a good sign. come on fellow Arborist's,,,we can help this guy out!

Soil that is too wet can activate very serious vascular diseases. Temperature extremes can cause bark to slough off. Combined with the fact these trees lost half their root systems in November I have to surmise they are goners.

But, hang on until Maas and Treeseer get here.

looks like native red maple and paulownia? that's a big wound--I would coppice them.

Which means cut them to the ground and train the sprouts (yes I'm pretty certain they will sprout) into multistem trees. Works well with red maple; not so sure about paulownia, maybe just one trunk on those.

Cambial fungus? Like a wilt disease? Nah, that damage looks like drowning trenching grading or other physical issues.

Looks like a tree was fell against them and/or a tractor got a hold of it. They don't look like an essential piece of the landscape and they are not going to get better, if left alone, only bigger.

The trees are failing on the sides that had roots severed 8-9 months ago.

Codit seems advanced for .5 growing season.

Ensure optimum growing conditions, mulch, h2o, sunlight, monitor for pest issues, soil sample, prescription fert with mycor. to have a 10-20% chance of saving them.

They will never be superlative. Cheaper to purchase new stock. Look for plants that are suited to the site.

that might be correct I did drop alot of trees in the area.........my excavating guy was already there pulling all my stumps:deadhorse:
