Interesting links Rog. I grew up about 5 miles from Wachusett and still live about 15 minutes away. Oddly enough the whole incident isn't drawing much attention from the local media, except in Boston it seems.

I had to laugh when they described WEST as a group of "native residents". More like yuppie suburban Boston metro transplants in the last 10-15 years who moved out here cut down all the trees on their own property and now stick their noses into everyone elses business. Meanwhile they commute daily for an hour or more one way in their SUV's.

Blaming the mountain for Wymans ponds problems is also laughable. The Lake Association has had "weed" problems and algae blooms for many years directly as a result of the residents dumping unprocessed sewage into the pond. We always affectionately called it "slyman's pond".

Buffer zone aside, there was always some doubt as to whether or not these were actually "old growth" trees.

Of course in defense of the environment, the land clearing company that won the bid is probably the worst I have seen around here. Total disregard for rules and regulations. Not above tip-toeing ;) into wetlands to remove some high value stems and then claiming ignorance of the buffer flagging.

Yep, that pretty much sums it up.

Same ones that talk about crime control... wasn't any crime til you brought your little city-raised brats here.

Don't ya hate them types Newf??

I wonder how many people move to Florida every single day? I'm sure it's a lot, but they don't stop in N. Fla., they keep heading south towards RockyJ, Treeman14, and Spyder. Once you cross
I-10 you ARE on the Orange Blossum Trail.:p

I don't know, but every single one of them gets on I-275 every morning to go to Tampa.

Everything you're saying is what my wife's people have been screamin' about for a couple hundred years.

My town is also full of transplanted yuppies - no one on the school board has been here over five years. Worse, I imagine Jackson Hole and Helena, Montana. Along with the trophy wives comes the gift shoppes. On our two miles of solid main street not one business is a necessary one, even the mower dealer sold his shop four years ago. Double chocolate Latte anyone? With a rasberry scone?

WalMart for locals, brew-pubs and marble slab dealers for all else.
