The tree has been rubbing for years. The deck was installed 14 years ago, the board in the notch was fairly recently added.

The tree was a Tulip Poplar and needed to be removed. The decay was all the way through the heartwood.

Always a fun time when you have a situation like that. All the wood had to be butt hitched? Or did you use a crane or nearby trees?

There was no access for a crane. I probably could have cut and chucked alot of it, but with a hot tub underneath the tree i opted to tie off everything. Very small pieces, very gently, the tree was a bit shaky.
Easy job though... I'd love a couple like that every day.

that really doesn't look that bad.

i'd tie off to another tree.a speed line would work good on that setup if it's possible.climber some rigging and a few ropes for sure.where in the southeast is that?i'd like to get in on that climb.

Speed line

i did a pine that was in the same type of situation but without the damage factor. I used a speed line and it worked well while i had the height. Then had to piece it in small pieces to be able to chuck it out and away from the deck. Was 22" in diameter and about 120' tall.
