I want to try using a tress cord like I hear you some of you guys talking about . what kind do you use and can I buy the cord and tie my own with a fisherman knot ? Right now I use a split tail with a blakes .

Sounds like you are ready for an upgrade. Good for you.

There is a learning curve with these more advanced hitches. You have to experiment a bit and find what works for you.

Just tie your own knots on the ends.

www.sailnet.com

sta-set 8mm is pretty good

I am using T-900 8mm

I am always experimenting myself.

Do a search here for different hitches, distal, VT, etc......

The VT is a bit tricky if not at the right length and not properly dressed.

As always, stay safe low and slow with anything new.

Nathan gave you what you need. Sailnet is great to deal with and the 8mm sta-set is both inexpensive and durable.

No, I don't feel bad about discouraging people from buying the UT from Sherrill, I spent almost $3K there last year and looks like I'll top that this year.

Amazing how much gear you can collect AND use. What happened to the days of climbing gear being:

1 snap - $15
1 used buttstrap saddle - $50
1 used arbo line - $50

Total $115

Just a drop in the bucket now

;)

I buy a spool and use the cord for a lot of different things. I use Stable Braid.

Those "Tidey Cat" litter buckets with a fliptop lid work great or keeping small cord in the truck. I got one for the 5/16 SB and one for the 3/8 Tenex I use for rigging slings.
